My Twitter account was hacked

And I didn't know.
My Twitter account was hacked on April 17 2023. I tried logging in today but it said my username could not be found. I searched my username on Google and discovered my account doesn't exist anymore.
I clicked my old tweet that appeared on Google search and discovered my account exists with a new username.
I decided to search my Twitter username in my email and discovered my email and twitter password was changed April 17 last year.
I decided to report it to twitter with a screenshot of my Twitter message on email. I wonder if this will be successful since I stayed almost a year without knowing.

It's been rebranded as X, and it's a dumpster fire. I don't know if you'd even want to go back. I wouldn't.

Yes. I noticed Twitter is now X. I didn't plan on being active there, I just wanted to check my timeline to see what is happening since I last logged in. On a second thought, I don't think I want to go back on Twitter but I want to see if Twitter can be able to restore my account to me.

My email shows the twitter details were changed by someone in the Location of St Louis, MO, USA. I wonder if it is a white person. I'm in Africa, why would someone from USA want my account.

@mildredtabitha It could be a white person, but St. Louis is an area with a large black population as well. They probably chose you because they noticed your account had not been active in awhile. It certainly is disconcerting to have something that is personal to you, hacked.

They do that to scam other people. That way they have an older account with lots of friends already on it to look legit

It's sad to know that. Yes my account was very old since I opened 2015 December and had almost three thousand followers.

Oh! Sorry to hear that , but those clowns dont easily recover hacked accounts. I had similar issues with my previous Facebook.

You might want to check all your email addresses and phone number as well, a very big data breach was uncovered today. You can check on the data leak check link. Lucky for us, the data leaked for us are all on sites we've used false birth dates and addresses for.

Thank you for sharing the link. I checked it now and entered my email to see if my data was breached but a message appeared saying I'm blocked from using the site. Maybe I'll try on a different browser tomorrow.
