Day 10 – Noah’s Blessing and Curse
Genesis 9:18 Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan.
19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these populated they the whole earth.
20 Noah began to be a farmer and planted a vineyard.
21 Then he drank of the wine, became drunk, and lay uncovered in his tent.
22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside.
23 Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, went backward, and covered their father; their faces turned away, so they did not see their father’s nakedness.
24 Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his younger son did to him.
25 Then he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants he will be to his brethren.”
26 Then he said, “Blessed be the LORD (Jehovah), the God (Elohiym) of Shem, and may Canaan be his servant. 27 May God (Elohiym) enlarge Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem; and may Canaan be his servant.”
28 Noah lived after the flood three hundred-fifty years.
29 So all the days of Noah were nine hundred-fifty years; and he died.
God’s name:
Elohiym – Mighty God
Jehovah – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Savior
People see and do things that bring shame and disgrace to their lives. When they do, they often find themselves ostracized from society, living under a curse for their actions.
Ham saw his father’s nakedness when Noah lay drunk in his tent after drinking from the wine he produced as a farmer. What he did to his father, we don’t know, but Noah did and cursed his grandson for his son’s actions. Noah also knew his other sons covered him and blessed them for their respect to him.
Parents know their children and what they are capable of, either good or bad. You instinctively know which child caused trouble, and which one didn’t.
Noah knew his children and cursed Canaan because he had the same disrespect as his father, Ham. He knew Shem and Japheth would never dishonor him and blessed them. God (Elohiym) honored both the curse and blessing Noah pronounced on his sons.
You know Noah’s curse didn’t take effect immediately, but simmered over time until you see the whole Canaanite nation cursed the God (Elohiym) of Israel. You also know it was through Shem, Jesus’ lineage came, who became your Savior (Mashiyach) and redeemed the world to Himself through His shed blood on the cross.
A study of Japheth shows he became a large nation and made his home in what is now Europe. God enlarged him and provided for him.
How do you treat Jesus (Yeshuwa)? Do you mock him as Ham did to Noah, or do you respect Him and accept Him as Savior (Mashiyach) and Lord, as Shem and Japheth did to Noah?
How you treat Jesus (Yeshuwa) will determine whether you live under a blessing or a curse. Those who accept Him, receive eternal life. Those who reject Him, receive eternal damnation.
God (Elohiym) eventually destroyed the Canaanites. You cannot find them on the earth today. However, you can find the descendants of Shem, Jews, God’s (Elohiym’s) chosen people. You can also find the descendants of Japheth.
God (Elohiym) honored Noah’s blessing and curse, showing it as a prophetic blessing and curse by the extinction of Canaan and the survival of Japheth and the Jewish nation also known as Semites.
You know God’s (Elohiym’s) blessing on Shem with the blessing on the Jewish nation and on all those who bless Israel. Noah’s blessing rests on you too when you honor Israel and accept Jesus (Yeshuwa) as your Savior (Mashiyach) and LORD (Jehovah).
Does Noah’s blessing rest on you or his curse?
Let’s pray: Father, let Your blessing rest on me as I trust in You and accept Your Son, as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Or church is currently going thru the chronological Bible as a congregation. We read sections in our own time and can discuss it in groups and then pastor picks something from that weeks reading to teach on.
I didn't know some of what your shared, I'll have to study that more one day.
We are currently reading Job.

It seems a bit harsh to me to curse the son of the father, and the whole nation that came from them. Jesus told us to let our nay be nay, and our yea be yea, and not to curse anyone.
Perhaps Noah could have prayed for his son, to be forgiven by God, and by himself too, instead.

@innertalks There are some people who claim to be prophets who aren't and there are people who listen to the Holy Spirit and are led by Him. Those are the people God listens to.

@just4him Yes, I wonder if God still honours such prophetic curses today, or if the birth of Christ, has moved us all away from that, as there are no prophets now anymore.
