I have been thinking what I want to make when friend comes down, and I think it is going to be a lower calorie slow cooker recipe. It looks really good. I will have to go to Aldi for the ribs though..Meat is ridiculously expensive most places now. Kroger might have a good price too though. I could check there. You also need mesquite seasoning..which is cheap at Walmart, but Kroger should have that too I hope. Trying to make it at home looks like alot of work although I do have most of the ingredients to make it. Remember when Vicki@1creekgirl was looking for slow cooker recipes? It would have been nice if she had told us about some.. My mouth is watering. Hint, Hint Vicki... Of course Lord Google has lots too.

I find it funny to read about ALDI on an American site. From the net, "Aldi stands for Albrecht-Diskont, which in English means Albrecht's Discount, which is a name the brothers introduced in 1961. They eventually took the two first letters of each word to form Aldi, which is pronounced All-Dee." I'd shop there, too, but the nearest shop is a bit too far away from where I live.

Yes, they may not be West of the Mississippi yet, but many in this country. Lidl is another one, although not as far flung as Aldi. Most Lidl's are on the East coast. I like both stores.

@snowy22315 I wonder why both ALDI and Lidl have made it on the North American continent. Usually, it's the other way round and Europeans copy American ideas. With cars it's the other way round, of course. Who doesn't want to have a German BMW or Mercedes car? :-)

@snowy22315 If you lived close, I could loan you my mesquite seasoning. I hope you find it today and ribs that won't break the bank.

We have Aldi in Kansas, not as many as I would like. I have all kinds of herbs and spices and could make my own rubs, etc. but sometimes it just seems too much bother.

The one thing I hate about slow cooked meals is how long it takes. That's the real pain in the butt. Good luck with yours.

@kaylachan That is why they have low settings .

They do, but if you are going to be away from home and want to come back to something cooked they are ideal. Low and slow is how they cook.

@snowy22315 I'll never understand why some people believe that's a smart idea. You should never leave appliances on and running while you're not there to watch them. And, a slow cooker is still producing more power than a t.v. while cooking something. I don't like waiting, and George never used one when he'd be gone all day.
