Internet Searching

When you want to search something on the internet, what search engine do you use? Is it Google? Bing? Go Duck Go, or some other one? Do you know that no two search engines will give you the same results? There is also the difference between a search engine and a directory. Google is a search engine. Dogpile is a directory. So what happens is this: with a search engine you get a number of results. With a directory, you get results from all the top search engines, so therefore, you get more results with each search. Businesses pay for top ten results. So you might not be getting the results you really want if you stick only to the top ten results. Also, website owners must do their own marketing to get their website to appear anywhere in the first few pages of results. Why is Google so popular? Is it the best search option? Well, it is popular because they paid for that popularity. They paid for advertising in movies and television by making sure that the Google name was put out there. So now the word Google is a verb. Why not Google that topic? It is called branding. The same reason everyone calls a facial tissue a Kleenex. Hand me a Kleenex please, when they are actually giving you a Puffs? My preference is Dogpile because of the amount of excellent results I get since it is a directory. However, currently I use Swagbucks which uses Bing. The reason I use it is because it pays me to search. Not a lot of money, but it is something. What do you use to search the internet?

For me it is always Bing. It's the only one that pays me so it is the only one I use. Like you said, it's not much. But better than nothing.

Are you talking about Swagbucks that uses Bing? I don't know that Bing on its own pays anything.

@capirani I don't do Swagbucks. Bing gives you points for searches and other things which can be converted to gift cards. I usually turn points in for $25 Walmart gift cards.
