I forget how lovely and heart-wrenching this story is in parts. It is based on the novel of the same name written by James Hilton who also wrote "Goodbye Mr. Chips", "Lost Horizon" and the screenplay for "Mrs. Miniver" which are great dramatic stories. It is the story of a World War I soldier who loses his memory and the showgirl who comes to his aid. Then an accident causes his former memories to come back. A little complex but oh, so tantalizingly lovely. You will want to have a hanky handy. Ronald Colman has the male lead and I love his voice. He and George Brent seem somewhat the same in stature, masculine voice, and baring. Then there is the female lead of Greer Garson. Such a lovely woman with such poise and dignity. Always is in a good movie. The storyline is enough to bring tears to even the hardened movie watcher. And when Paula is Charle's secretary I watch to throttle her for not grabbing the key he is forever fiddling with and taking them both to the country cottage and making him use the key and open the door. Surely his memory would have come back quicker. It is a wonderful movie and the actors just make it that much better.
