Just Started Watching a New Show

Homestead Rescue on Discovery+ is a new show I have just started binge watching. These are shows where the people have gone off-grid and need help. When I was younger, I always thought it would be great to be able to homestead. There were houses you could buy for $1 as long as you had them moved to a new location. Of course, you would need the land. In many states there is or at least was land you could buy cheap or for $1. Then in any of these situations, you had a year to make some significant improvements to keep the property. I also have always loved fixer-upper houses. Kind of like today's tv shows about flipping houses. Only I would fix it up to live in myself. I am too old for doing much fixing up these days. My mom would buy her home and them make changes, like new carpeting or linoleum, painting, etc. Small and easy changes. None of those were off-grid homesteading though.
Would you like to go off-grid and homestead? Would you like to be able to buy a house and land for $1 each and then spend the year making improvements? Or do you like buying fixer-uppers either to live in yourself or to flip and sell for more than you bought it for?

We've done the flipping thing and, while we made a profit on some of the properties, it was causing far too much stress. I think builders invented the word tomorrow, because it is the word they use the most.
As for homesteading - for me yes, for Dalene never. I love being off grid and self sufficient and would grab at the chance. I know most of the time is taken up with providing food, but I would find it far more rewarding than city life.

Have you been able to purchase a homestead? I would have loved to. One day… it’s still my dream.

I would have loved homestead if I was younger but not now. My friend was given a mobile home and had to repair it and the title was hers. My first husband went in and fixed up the mobile home for her and gave her a receipt and that got her the title. Of course we did not really charge her anything.
