This is the third in a series of four posts about African American history. Just a few more entries I found interesting:
* The self-proclaimed "Black Edison", Garrett Morgan, invented the three-way traffic signal in 1923. He also patented the precursor to the World War I gas mask, the safety hood.
* One of the cornerstones of the civil rights movement was the case Brown v.Board of Education which in 1954 helped establish that "seperate-but-equal" education was not in fact equal at all.
* Historically Black Colleges and Universities were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and were set up to educate only African Americans. HBCU alumni such as Oprah Winfrey, Vice President Kamala Harris, and, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
* George Washington Carver had quite an influence on American agriculture. He taught both white and black poor southern farmers many important farming practices. He discovered over 300 different uses for the peanut such as cooking oil, axle grease, and printer ink.
* Ruby Bridges left a legacy of progress paving the way for desegregation efforts across the country as she made history for being the first African American student to integrate an all-white school in the South. She faced immense hostility in the New Orleans school in Louisiana.

Thank you for an interesting post. I didn't know that Carver found 300 uses for the peanut. Enjoy your weekend.
