Hiking in the glens.

We took a hike today up in the Glens of Antrim. The sun shone but the air was cold on our faces as we headed into the forest, just the way I like it for hiking. We parked the car by the sea and within about twenty minutes were a few hundred feet above the coast, coming out of the trees into lush meadows and below us the sea, sparkling all the way to Scotland where it seemed to get swallowed up in dismal haze. No-one else was about. The trail was muddy, rain water seeping out of the hills onto the paths and down into the swollen, fast-flowing river. The trail home ran along the river bank and there were ewes with lambs frolicking in the sunshine. Next time we’ll take food and head higher into the glens.

What is the difference between a valley and a glen?

@maluse I have no idea. Probably it’s a language thing, gleann being Irish and Scottish, whereas valley is more of an English term.
