So I went to the doctor, a surgeon by profession and got a constructive feedback after proper diagnosis. I am overweight. That, I have to see a gym instructor and a dietician. This seems to be the only panacea for the excruciating pain in the knee. I had been a gold medalist in the zonal division basketball match in my high school and take a lot of interest in playing cricket, badminton and throwball. I do not intend to leave, watching a single football match in the World Cup. That was till I started getting serious posts in the hierarchal order in my profession. I have, of late, got in touch with a world champion in weightlifting who also happens to be a resident in my hometown. I contacted her and delivered the details the doctor had suggested. What she told me, left me in awe. She had a damaged L4, L5 and doctors, MRI reports had suggested she should not lift weight beyond hundred kilos. With her tenacity and one pointed attention to overcome her physical handicap, she dedicated her time to recoup and recover completely. Recently she bagged the Asian Pacific African Women’s Classic Powerlifting Championship in China. She runs her own gym. A homemaker with a kid, she is undoubtedly an example for others. She told me, rather inspired me to join her gym and said that no matter what doctor's report says, we all have the capacity to heal ourselves. If I select a slot for myself and devote myself entirely to work out during that time, at the expense of postponing meetings or managing otherwise, or any other important task, I'm bound to heal. Will be meeting her tomorrow.

A hundred kilos is a lot, of course it depends on how tall the person is.

While exercising and dieting help some medicines can help to get proper results. From your name, I guess you live in Bengal or at least in India. So you might try homeopathy.
