The history of black music and the iconic artists who have made their mark are extensive and here are just a few:
* Aretha Franklin was a gifted songwriter, singer, and pianist who perfected a mixture of gospel and rhythm and blues and became the "Queen of Soul" in 1960s. She is famous for such hits as "A Natural Woman" and "Respect". She inspired generations of R&B singers such as Alicia Keyes, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey.
* A NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson 1900 wrote a hymn, written as a poem, that begins with the line: "Lift every voice and sing, 'til earth and heaven ring It is often referred to as "The Black National Anthem". These lyrics capture the solemn yet hopeful appeal for the liberty of Black Americans.
* Beyonce made history in 2023 at the Grammys becoming the artist with the most wins. She won Best Dance/Electronic Music Album with the album "Renaissance". This was her 32nd Grammy win. She is the most nominated female artist with 79 career nominations.
* With their mix of pop, soul, and R&B The Jackson 5 brothers, Michael, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon began their career at Motown in 1964. They paved the way for other artists like Boyz II Men and New Edition.
* Hip Hop has grown into one of the world's most outstanding cultural influences and musical genres. DJ Kool was one of the most influential hip-hop pioneers of this art movement and subculture coming out of the Bronx, New York in the early 1970s. He began de-structuring and experimenting with instrumental breaks in funk, R&B and soul tracks.

I just can't get into hip hop or rap. I'm a 60s and 70s fan. Have a good weekend.

I feel the same way. Classic rock and some old pop for me.
