Update on my getting to buy a house and move:
I am STILL waiting on my verification letter from Soc Sec and nothing! I was told by the person who interviewed me that it would be two weeks. It is into the third week now. I checked the SS website on Monday, and it said it can actually take two to four weeks and showed that mine was only halfway through the process. I checked again today, and nothing came in the mail, so I looked at the website again. It said they have just started step three! Everything is on hold until I get that letter and then get it to my bank so they can process my loan. Then I have to be in a contract for purchase of the house before they can apply for this special grant that I can get that will help me with a nice downpayment.
I had a longer conversation this time with the loan officer about how long it takes to find out if I get the grant. Stupidly, in the beginning, I thought this was going to happen faster. I even expected that my new SS would happen on this Friday. Now it looks like I won't get that money until April instead of March. That puts the entire process of getting this house at risk because there are already other offers. Plus, it means staying put here at least another month. It also means that I might not get the grant because there will be so many people trying for it. It is a first come, first serve situation that begins on Friday for everyone competing.
In the meantime, the sellers are apparently giving me time for this to all happen because the realtor changed the status of the house from Under Contract, to Contingent-Continue to Show. I have never seen such a status before. It makes me think that they liked the "offer" I plan to make once I get this darn letter.
Also, the realtor that was assigned to me through the website where I found the house first has apparently stopped working with me. She will get her percentage of the commission just for showing me the house, so maybe that is all she really cares about. She is supposedly a buyer's agent and supposed to represent me. She was going to be looking into all these other things that might be helpful for me once I get the house. But she has not responded to one phone call or text that I have made to her in the past over two weeks now. It is very frustrating. This is my first time going through this kind of thing. and at 68 years old, it is a bit daunting.
Now to end this post, I have to say that everything has been all subject to God's direction. I would like to have this specific house. But maybe God has a better one waiting for me around the bend. God is always right and always on time. It is an adventure, no doubt. I have started the packing process and am ahead of the game in that arena so far. It is just that the stress of living where I am now continually, day-by-day, gets that much worse. It has been construction in my hallway and my apartment all week. Noise. Noise. Noise.
Please Mr. Postman, deliver the letter. The sooner the better.

May I inform you that on SS website, if it is a verification letter you need, all you have to do is print it from the website..your verification letter is right there.
No waiting for them to send it..you can print it instantly.

@RebeccasFarm It is not ready yet to print. It is in process. I can print off my current verification, but I am waiting on my NEW verification after getting my application for survivor benefits processed. I was told it was two weeks. But the website says two to four weeks. That was all in my first paragraph.

I hope your letter comes. The agent helping you wasn't a very good one. Realtors only get paid if they sell homes, so she was not making any money or commission helping you look at homes. And, it's the seller where the commission comes from. I hope you find a home you can call your own.

I do hope you get some good news soon - or, better yet, the letter you're waiting for.

I hope the process speeds up and you get approval. I know it can be frustrating. Have a good day.
