People love telling us that animals are stupid, it's interesting since we don't speak their language. Have people ever considered that since we don't speak other human languages maybe they think we might be "stupid"????? I say this with good reason. A couple of weeks ago I watched a program on Animal Planet about "Klepto Cats...well I think it was Animal Planet. Anyhow, it featured cats that took up stealing for a hobby. They would bring home some very odd things, like bags of nuts and bolts, tools, toys, towels, clothing, underwear (bras and panties especially-one video showed a cat with a super sized bra that it was struggling to haul home...I would guess it was a "D" cup at least!) It was fun to say the least. One family had a wall dedicated to what their cat had brought home, it had over 600 items!! Freya watched in utter fascination. There was a look in her eyes that defies description. Well the next evening she came down the hallway with a sock in her mouth. That didn't bother me too much, as we would give our dogs and cats old socks to play with. The next day she came down the hallway dragging my nightgown. Humm, this is getting interesting. Later that evening while I was engrossed in one of my favorite shows I heard something heavy being drug down the hallway...it was a pair of my blue jeans, being drug by my little girl. This might be getting serious!!! Then I couldn't find my bra the next morning, you guessed it, the Klepto kitty struck again-it was in her favorite sleeping spot. So far, she has latched onto bags of bears in progress, half finished bears (ones that are being stuffed), the adaptor for plugging in my phone and computer, my wallet from my purse, a pair of scissors, a shoe, and a bag of used kitty litter (I use zip lock bags for used kitty litter so that it doesn't stink up the apartment. This one was only a couple of days old.) She is having the best time with her new hobby, I never know what she will pick up next. Thankfully she lives inside so I don't have to worry about her stealing from the neighbors!!!! I'm not too sure I want to discourage her from her fun, after all I do get a good laugh from her Kleptomania. Have you heard of a kleptomaniac cat??? Have you had your pet bring home a strange item from the neighbors?.

All our cats have been indoor cats. My cat Precious was one of those food hog cats. There wasn't anything he wouldn't eat. One thanksgiving, Precious stole a turkey and hid it under my bed. My sister wanted to kill him. Thankfully, she didn't and he survived to be 19 years old.

@BearArtistLady That was a sight for sure. I heard the crash and then my sister yelling. Our living room was huge and my bedroom was the master on the main floor. If he had to carry it up the stairs, I don't think it would've made it that far. I think he learned a lesson from that. Because the next time he stole food (it was when we brought him to Daytona to live with George and me) he stole chicken bones out of the trash, and ate them in the cabinet. Purring because he was so proud of himself. Chilly's a more laid back cat, who'd rather use my stomach as a bed.

Pets exhibiting kleptomaniac behaviors, like Freya bringing home various items, can be amusing and entertaining. While it may seem like "stealing" to us, it's often a form of play for them. Embrace the quirks of your furry companion and enjoy the laughter they bring into your life.

I love her dearly, it tickles me so much that she watched the program with me and then took up being a Kleptomaniac. She's on my lap and when I hit the post button she started chewing on my knee cap, like she wasn't happy that I was telling the world about her hobby! She has changed so much since I got her nearly 2 years ago. The people who had her previously didn't know how to live with a Siamese, let alone a cat. She is such a much more happy cat now that she is with me

Taking after squirrels. Animals are very intelligent. They have to be to survive. Hopefully, she won't branch out and go to your neighbors. I've known of several different klepto animals. You'd best watch what you're watching on TV now or she may com up with some other ideas.

I am glad you don't have to worry about talking to your neighbors about how you got something. But I would love to hear that conversation. I have never had a cat that was bad about it. They might pick one or two things they liked. Maybe don't let her watch a show about escape artists cats
