Indian independence and developments since

Before I start ..let me say... I like to rationalize. So this may come out as something against the present government propaganda, which is what politicos do anyway, irrespective of time and place and party. India's population excluding Bangladesh and Pakistan, at the time of independence in August, 1947 was 340 million. Literacy rate was just 12 percent. India's population in 2014 was about 1.27 billion. India's literacy level jumped to 69.1 percent. Remember, this percentage is calculated on higher number of population. AND many educated have again left the country for greener pastures. How much taxes can 12 percent literate population pay for development of the country? Of them too, many left the country because they would not have found jobs to feed themselves and their families. They settled in other countries like the US, UK, and Canada. India's economy was 95 percent dependent on agriculture in 1947. There were not enough dams and canals. There were not enough food storage facilities, plant diseases were rampant, logistics were bad, as roads and transportation facilities were bad back then. Vehicles too were slow. When Brits left this country, India had 325 crores INR. Back then 1 US dollar was equal to 4.16 INR. So in dollar terms it would be 781.25 million USD. In 2014 26,243.67 billion INR was the cash reserve with Reserve Bank of India. Please note BILLION. I dollar was equal to 63.2357 approx. So that is about 414.8737689 billion USD. Please correct me if I have gone wrong in calculations. To my mind, that is an extremely decent jump in cash reserves. Considering the base we started on. Considering the technological constraints of the era since independence to 2014. Considering the amounts we must have spent on three and a half wars. Considering the sanctions against us following Pokhran I and Pokhran II nuclear tests. Considering the many colleges, roads, trains, industries, airports, healthcare systems etc., all in place since 1947. Considering the research and development units set up since independence such as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and the Indian Space Research Organization. Considering the havoc partition caused, and subsequent riots because of it. So yeah, it is very easy to say that we achieved a lot in the decade unlike the previous governments. But then, I don't think so because that much of cash in the kitty makes it easier to flex muscles. Even the worst political party would have managed to show higher achievement now that enough cash was around. It goes without saying the previous government too would have shown equal if not better development. But there are politicos bragging they didn't do anything, we have done more in the decade than them. Not true. In any event, they don't brag about demonetization in any of the speeches, which is an indirect acceptance of it as monumental blunder. Yet they behave as if they didn't make any mistakes while the previous governments were mistakes incarnate and anti national, or whatever. Laying foundation is always tougher and more time consuming. Mistakes are inevitable. So who believes politicos? Not I. I rationalize.

Politics is always confusing to me. I don't pretend to know what they are talking about. I hope it all means things are well in your country. If not, I'm sorry.

No political party is honest. So we never know if things are well in our country. For now, I can feel a lot of undercurrent of hatred for sure.

It's always mind boggling how many people are in your country. I don't pretend to understand all the problems you face in your country; but I do sympathize. Try and have a good day.

At every step, attempts are made to put religion on forefront. It will not do the country any good in the long run.
