Funny Phrases Taken Literally

Don't we all have funny little phrases we say without even thinking? For me, there is one that I get such a kick out of. It's "I was just beside myself". When you think about it how could you be 'beside yourself'? It strikes me as funny. Then there is this one: "That scared the sh*t out of me". Think about it. What would it take to really do that? It just strikes me funny to think about these sayings literally.

@celticeagle It means 'by God' for example..Begorrah that was a close one! so By God, that was a close one! Sort of an exclamation in the Irish.

One phrase that I find funny to this day is what my late dad used to say which "Your mother wears army shoes."

I have a hyperactive cat in Tish and sometimes she make big and unexpected jumps and scares me and I say to her Stop that you scared the bejesus out of me, Not really sure why I started saying this but it just came out naturally

Ahhh, but if you have diarrea it would be very easy to scare the sh*t out of a person. I have this odd faculty that I look at the odd way of fulfilling a statement...
