The first finished painting of some fish.

Here is the first finished painting of some fish. I did finish the practice piece first, but I haven't taken a picture of that yet. So what I did with this piece was I did the background first, trying to get it lighter at the top and darker at the bottom. I let that dry a bit before starting on the fish. I painted the top right fish first with a base coat of white. I had to go over it again later because I didn't feel it was opaque enough. Then I did the bottom left fish orange, but not painting in the end of the tail. Then I left it to dry and went on to the bottom.right fish, and I also painted this white. After that I went and got my dinner.. When I came back to the painting I started on the middle fish. I did part of it in light blue (made by mixing metallic cerulean blue with metallic white) and part of it with cerulean blue on its own. Then I left that to dry. I painted white patches on the orange fish and left that to dry. Then I went and put black patches on the two fish on the right that I'd painted with two coats of white. I went over the fins with metallic silver. On the middle fish I did the tail and added a fin that I hadn't noticed on the reference photo! There was also a fin I'd missed off the top right fish too, so I added that in with metallic silver. Then I added a bit of grey/blue to the end of the orange fishes tail. I added orange bits to the two white fish and the blue fish, but obviously the orange fish didn't need any more orange adding! I added grey shadows to some areas of the fish. Then I added some finishing touches, like the dots on the blue fishes head and the blue fishes eye. Then I called it finished. I'm not sure what to make of the metallic paints. I don't know if I'm going to use the metallics on the other fish paintings or just use normal acrylic paint. What do you think? Anyway, what have you lot been getting up to today?
