Those Days

I often think of my town that was once a little bigger than a village. Boys of this village used to play old games like gullidanda;spinning tops;kabaddi;hide and seek;football etc.In winter they flew kites. Girls in those days used to play with dolls. They would consider themselves as mothers and grandmas of their dolls. They used to make their dolls with small pieces of colorful cloths.Male dolls are called guddas and female ones are called gudias. They used to get their guddas and gudias married with the guddas and gudias of their classmates. These "marriage ceremonies" were duely observed with all Hindu rituals and celebrated. Those days are gone.Boys no longer play gullidanda or spintops or kabbaddi or hide and seek. They either play mobile games or cricket.Girls no longer play with dolls. Those days are gone.I miss them badly.

I understand your longing for the old ways of simplicity. We also had simple life and games as kids. Thank you for sharing about the dolls and their names.

@Shivram59 Maybe it is just the times these days changing so much of what we are familiar with.

@RebeccasFarm Only change is constant. We have desires. Some get fulfilled;some don't.There is an adage in Sanskrit that says;time does not pass;we do.Desires never die;we do.

Yes the times have changed. Even in the case of cricket, I do not see ample spaced parks anymore. Forget 22 yards of pitch. Many of the Grounds in Delhi are now car parking places. And forget about Hockey or Football. I remember my days in the house where my paternal granny used to live. Mangoes used to grow there. Our cousins used to come and play during the summer holidays. In our colony, we used to play street cricket where players varied from age 8 to 18 !! Once I scored 2-3 runs against an older bowler and I was so delighted!! In short - simple joys !!

Ours was a food ball team.Later on he introduced cricket in my team. Most of the boys were not at all interested in cricked.I still remember my highest score was39.Wickets I took were perhaps 4 of 5.But due to lack of interest I gave up playing cricked.

We still have some open grounds here;but they are far from my place.People don't want to go there only to play.

Kids still play hide and seek here and many outdoors games. Parents are very responsible, they do not let their kids play with mobile for very long time.

Agree.Everything is contaminated.Playing with dolls our small girls learned how to become responsible housewives.

I like living in the countryside because kids still spend a lot of time outside. Times have changed.

Some girls still play with dolls. Some adults sleep with their toys. I know one. Those were good times. I was happy when I was a kid. I knew real happiness.

@dya80cya Really?? That means such adults did not let the 'child' in themselves die. That's a good news.
