Day 92 – Sacrifice
Leviticus 1:1 Now JEHOVAH called to Moses, and spoke to him from the tabernacle of meeting, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When any one of you brings an offering to JEHOVAH, you will bring your offering of the livestock—of the herd and of the flock. 3 If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he will offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before JEHOVAH. 4 Then he will put his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. 5 He will kill the bull before JEHOVAH; and the priests, Aaron’s sons, will bring the blood and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 6 He will skin the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces. 7 The sons of Aaron the priest will put fire on the altar and lay the wood in order on the fire. 8 Then the priests, Aaron’s sons, will lay the parts, the head, and the fat in order on the wood that is on the fire upon the altar; 9 but he will wash its entrails and its legs with water. The priest will burn all on the altar as a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to JEHOVAH.
10 ‘If his offering is of the flocks—of the sheep or of the goats—as a burnt sacrifice, he will bring a male without blemish. 11 He will kill it on the north side of the altar before JEHOVAH; and the priests, Aaron’s sons, will sprinkle its blood all around on the altar. 12 He will cut it into its pieces, with its head and its fat; and the priest will lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire upon the altar; 13 but he will wash the entrails and the legs with water. Then the priest will bring it all and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to JEHOVAH.
14 ‘If the burnt sacrifice of his offering to JEHOVAH is of birds, then he will bring his offering of turtledoves or young pigeons. 15 The priest will bring it to the altar, wring off its head, and burn it on the altar; and drain its blood out at the side of the altar. 16 He will remove its crop with its feathers and cast it beside the altar on the east side, into the place for ashes. 17 Then he will split it at its wings but will not divide it completely; and the priest will burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to JEHOVAH.
God’s name:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Mighty God
El – God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Law Giver
We enter the book of Leviticus to find the laws JEHOVAH gave Moses, beginning with the laws concerning the burnt offering. JEHOVAH is as specific regarding the laws as He was in the construction of the tabernacle.
His first law concerned the burned sacrifice, what animals or birds to bring, how to cut them, and place them on the altar. Whatever they sacrificed would be a sweet savor to JEHOVAH.
Today the closest people come to a burnt sacrifice is when they grill out, making succulent cuts of various meats and poultry to enjoy. As it cooks, they inhale the sweet aroma in anticipation of the meal to come.
What kind of sacrifice are you to bring to JEHOVAH today? You bring a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Whenever you get together with other believers, you begin with worship and praise before you get into the study of JEHOVAH’S Word and message He wants to give you. You come before Him with your hearts prepared to receive what He wants to give you. You prepare your hearts with prayer.
You make a sacrifice of your time. Many people say they don’t have time to spend an hour in prayer, an hour in worship and praise, an hour to study their Bible. Those same people find trouble waiting for them because they couldn’t find time to give JEHOVAH before they got into their day. Your time is a sweet-smelling savor to JEHOVAH. He longs to spend time with you. When you do, He multiplies His blessings and keeps trouble from your door.
David showed when the best time to come before JEHOVAH.
Psalm 63:1 (A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.) O Elohiym, You are my El; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.
2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You.
4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift my hands in Your name.
5 My soul will be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth will praise You with joyful lips.
6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.
7 Because You have been my help, therefore, in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.
8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.
9 But those who seek my life, to destroy it, will go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They will fall by the sword; they will be a portion for jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him will glory; but the mouth of those who speak lies will be stopped.
David showed he came before Elohiym early, and in the night watches. He came before Elohiym all the time. There was no time when he didn’t praise Elohiym.
Do you praise Elohiym in the night watches? Your first thought might be no because you’re asleep. How many times have you woken to find songs filling your mind with praise for Elohiym? You’re praising Elohiym in the night watches because you come before Him with worship and praise when you start your day.
Your praise and worship are a sweet-smelling savor to Elohiym. When He hears your praise, He wants to bless you and give you the desires of your heart.
Your sacrifice does not need to be drenched in blood as the priests were who made their sacrifices for the people. Instead, Yeshuwa poured out His blood for you when He sacrificed Himself for your salvation. He covered you in His sacrificial blood the moment you accepted Him as Savior and Lord. You don’t see His blood covering you, but Elohiym does. When He sees Yeshuwa’s blood covering you and hears your praise, it is a sweet-smelling savor in His ears. His only response to you is blessing. He wants to give you the desires of your heart because you gave your sacrifice of praise and worship to Him before you started your day.
Do you want Elohiym’s blessings in your life? Give Him the sacrifice of praise and worship. Give Him the sacrifice of time. When you do, you will find the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Let’s pray: Father, let me give You the sacrifice of praise and worship when I start my day. Let me praise You in the night watches on my bed. Let me give You my time first before I begin my day and let me see Your blessings in my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Yes, to give our time and energy to God, to serve him rightly in our lives, and to follow closely his Holy Spirit's instructions to us directly given, as well as to abide by what scriptural words we read, must be pleasing to God, when we are faithful sons, and daughters to him, like that.
