Jimmy Buffett is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I have mixed feelings about this. First of all--anyone who knows me or who has read posts by me here on myLot know that I am a HUGE Parrothead. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jimmy Buffett and his music. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced that the beloved singer/songwriter who passed away in September 2023 will be inducted not as a performer but for "musical excellence". Meh. Sure JB wrote some absolute classic songs that people all around the world know. Yes he was very much adored by his fans. But even this Parrothead will admit that putting his name and "musical excellence" in the same sentence is a stretch. It would make more sense to me for him to be inducted into some kind of hall of fame for business excellence. I had similar misgivings last year when they inducted Dolly Parton. I *will* give her "musical excellence" but "rock and roll"?!?!?! I don't think so.

Interesting thoughts. Jimmy was an enjoyable singer. But like many singer/songwriter/entertainers, he got a lot of mileage out of three or four chords.

That is a funny comment. My ex and I saw "Escape to Margaritaville" on Broadway back in 2018. It was widely panned but we enjoyed it. The only original non-JB song in it was called "Three Chords" and was about exactly that.

I love Jimmy Buffet music and songs, and I think it is odd that he is not being inducted as a performer then again perhaps inducting him for musical excellence is their way of honoring him, And then what is Dolly Parton doing in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is there not one for country stars? This is all very confusing,
