Have you eaten red bananas before?

red banana, fruit, food

All my life , I have only seen green and yellow banana, and when they get rotten they turn black. I have never seen a red banana in my life and I keep wondering if it is a cross-breed of some other . If you have eaten red banana before, how does it taste and in what way is it different?

Hey Tunde, do these red bananas seem smaller in size compared to the bananas you see in the supermarkets? Because the huge yellow/green ones you see these days have been genetically modified and are NOT the original bananas eaten hundreds of years ago. These red ones, if they’re small, might just be the originals, and naturally organic.

@Melanie_Marie You are correct, the red ones are smaller and they taste sweeter.

I've never seen nor eaten these bananas before, but it sounds like they taste better than green and yellow. Most bananas, if not all, are genetically modified... mostly the natural way, through centuries of breeding the desired traits. I don't know why red bananas are less common, maybe their yield is poorer, they're smaller or require more care than yellow banana plants. That's unfortunate, maybe if I had access to the red variety I'd eat more bananas.

@ogbenishyna Those who tasted red bananas say they're sweeter and come with a raspberry underflavor, so that sounds like "better" to me. Plus, they're high in sugar but also rich in vitamin C and beta-carotene, common thing in red fruits.

How are you sure they taste better? I do agree with you they should taste better.

Although I have seen them online, I have never actually seen, touched, or tasted them. Their color deviates from the usual, but I suspect they taste the same as regular bananas.

Yes, I had red bananas several times, the taste is sweeter than the regular ones, the chair is softer.
