A Sudden Memory

I was trying to think of a subject for a discussion and I had a sudden memory from childhood. We were going to make an old shack our home. We forced the door open and heard hissing and yowling. A mama cat and several kittens were using our house for their apartment. She had an attitude daring us to come near. I tried to make friends but she wasn't having any of it. I don't know what happened to Mama and the babies so long ago. I don't know why this memory happened or why I needed to write about it. What do you think about it? Did you ever find something unexpected in a building?

You remind me of the line up of cats that come by for their share of the meal I put out for them. They don't trust me, but will stay kind of close when I talk to them. Feral cats are extremely protective of their litters, and very likely mama busily moved her family to an alternate home and the kittens grew up to be useful members of the animal society by hunting and dealing with mice and other critters. We had a ball watching the cats that came for their meal eat their fill and leave and the next one would come up. They were very polite and they even left some for later. They're looking really good since I give them some food every day.

@BearArtistLady They sound like great cats. If they were tamer, they could go to forever homes.

That is so good of you. It sounds like you gave them enough food and they were doing well. How exciting is it to see them taking turns?

@akalinus It's so heart warming to see them so polite and careful with how much they eat so everyone has plenty. I think they must have been from the same litter because they do things that only related cats would keep doing, like cleaning each other's necks.

Nothing like that. although when we had our last apartment, George thought it was ire. Now our house has a simular layout, and he's happy as a clam.

What do you mean by the house was ire? At least he is happy. That is a good thing. What about you?

@kaylachan I think there are hidden reasons that make a house feel creepy. It is good to trust your gut feeling or instinct about those things.

Well, I found an animal and her babies once, but the results were not positive, so I probably shouldn’t expound on that.

I don't remember what happened to the cats, but I think we found a different place to live.

It is weird how you suddenly remember in vivid detail, something that happened fifty or more years ago.

Yes, I found a rat in our building. Some cats are feral. I was attacked by a feral cat with kittens. They can be dangerous. I fed that cat for years and she didn't trust me at all.

I hope you did not get hurt. Cat's claws are sharp and sometimes they bite.

@akalinus I got a bit hurt, but not too much. She bit me. But it was a small wound. I had to take her kittens from my father's garage. He didn't dare to take them and wanted me to do this. Of course, we moved her kittens to a safe place, but their mom attacked me. I didn't expect this. We fed her for years.

Feral cats would be very protective of their kittens. It's strange how these memories surface from time to time.

That reminds me of a feral cat and her kittens that we fed when I was quite young. Have a good evening.
