Do you brush your cats every day?

I read that we should brush our cats every day. I have a beautiful cat with long hair. His name is Blue. I will share a picture with him. His eyes are blue. But he doesn't like to be brushed every day. I can brush him for 30 minutes or so. After a while, he starts to scratch me. That long hair is all on our things. He loves to open doors. I couldn't change the lock. And he still jumps on all doors and opens all the doors. This question is for people who have cats. Do you brush your cats every day?

Some breeds need it more than others. Ours are short hair and don't shed that much. So I don't. Chilly isn't a fan of the brush, anyway. He'd try to bite it. No thanks.

It's better to avoid it if they hate brushing.

@dya80dya Not all cats like it. I don't try it on a cat who won't take to it. And, I'll do it for as long as they'll let me.

What a beautiful kitty! What breed is he? If he's blue-eyed I guess Birman, or Ragdoll. Cats usually brush themselves with their tongue, meaning they might start spitting balls of fur at some point which isn't fun. You do good by brushing Blue, even if just for a few minutes, every day.

@dya80dya Wow! Was his mom like him? Or does that depend on the father? I didn't know there could be such beautiful feral cats. I mean, all cats are beautiful... but this breed is prolly my favorite.

@sabtraversa No, his mom wasn't like him. But I think the father was beautiful. We fed that feral cat and she disappeared for two weeks. When she returned she was pregnant and after a while, she had 4 beautiful kittens. They were all with blue eyes. Those were her last kittens because she was spayed after that.

I am not sure what breed he is. He lived on the streets and his mom was a feral cat. She had some beautiful kittens and all of them had blue eyes. They kept their blue eyes when they were bigger. I saw some balls of fur and they were everywhere.

They can be annoying too. Sometimes I think about finding a new home for one of them.

I have about three feral cats, two of them aren't friendly at all. Boo is shy but quite loving.

@dya80dya Feral cats are wild cats! They would never live indoors!

I should brush my pair, but they won't stand for it. I went through the annual apartment inspection and the furnace filter change. I told the guys that I had changed the filter in March...the gentleman took the cover off the filter and pulled the filter out and it was so loaded with cat hair that it hung down in 4 inch streams from the filter. He looked at me and kind of winked and smiled and said "You kind of need a new one.". Then, the supervisor of the complex had finished checking the bathroom and a cat hair bunny came sailing out from under the bed....she grinned and winked. My cats are registered therapy cats so they really can't do too much, but we can joke about them because they both are short haired cats (Siamese and Ginger Tabby). Blue is beautiful, you're lucky that he will allow you to brush him for 30 minutes. Cats skin is sensitive for when they go outside and are in brush or other tight areas. Excessive brushing can really irritate their skin and make it really sore. When I brush my pair I use a soft baby brush so that it isn't so rough on their skin, they don't mind it so much. Give Blue a hug for me and Petey and Freya (The Ginger Tabby and Siamese respectively.)

@dya80dya I don't know if Blue goes outside or not, but if you watch they usually will scratch up against furniture and under the beds and you'll find hair in various places, it's part of their way of grooming themselves. It's like today I got a package in the mail and Freya jumped in the empty box and rolled around and brushed up against the tape. She left behind a bunch of loose hair. Also, my neighbor made comment on the fact that Freya swatted at her friend Petey in the hind end with her claws out (and connected) if it had been her doing that to a human we would have bled like crazy, but with the fur they are protected from those kinds of wounds. I do well with the soft bristle brush that I use, and I usually brush the two of them once or maybe twice a week. They also have a cat "tree" (carpeted climbing post with shelves etc.) that they can climb on and roll on and get rid of loose hair. You know, come to think of it, I haven't ever had any problems with hairballs from either cat. It's usually a problem, especially in the Spring when they are shedding their winter coats. If you can't find a soft brush, let me know I might be able to help you out.

I will give Blue a hug for you, Petey, and Freya. Thank you. I was using a FURminator brush. I should change the brush.

My cats are medium and short haired. Once a week brushing is fine for them.

Nice pic.Kitty cats get over stimulated easily . I would keep the brushing sessions short. I could never bush Nico more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. He wouldn't tolerate more. Try shorter sessions with your cat.

Mine are short hair cats so I do not need to brush them every day. But I do brush them a couple of times a week and they do not care.

I literally don't brush my cats fur. Their fur are just too short to be brushed. Moreover, they don't like being brushed at all. I do think that long haired fur cats needed to be brushed regularly, not necessarily daily. Brushing can help prevent their fur from getting tangled and matted.
