Went to See the Chairs and Nearly Got Into a Fight

Back when I was younger and working at the telephone company a bunch of us girls quite often would go out for drinks. This one particular time we had decided to go see the Chippendale Dancers who were playing at one of the hotels downtown. We dressed nicely and had a few drinks at one of the girls ' houses that evening before heading down to the hotel. When we got there we were one of the first groups to arrive and we found some chairs and ordered more drinks. Soon others were coming in and it was getting crowded. It seemed appropriate at one point for all of us to stand as the men came out scantily dressed and began to gyrate around the room. We stood up in front of another group of women who were obviously very drunk. It was getting crowded and they began to shove us forward. I stood my ground as best I could when one woman shoved me forward. My group all pushed forward and we found our place in a good position to see the male dancers. Dollars were flying and it was quite a fiasco. The woman who had pushed me earlier did so again. My grandmother had taught me to have self-respect and not to act like a neanderthal so I just stood my ground. My other friends were irritated with this same woman but we just stood our ground and gave her strange looks. We had seen men fight over such things and we certainly were not going to dirty the name of "woman" by having a brawl there in a well-known downtown hotel over positioning to see some male dancers.
The show was entertaining, we all enjoyed ourselves and the night ended without a fight. Fighting is so uncalled for.
Have you ever been in a situation where being lady-like nearly went out the window?

I was with a group and wasn't going to step away from them to let her have the better view.

I've never been in that situation. A bunch of girls from work went to see male dancers; but I declined. Have a good day.
