Dallas, Lauderdale in Florida, Eisenhower Stadium in NY city as venues for a sports events. Well, you would ask me what is special about this? Yet what if I tell you that all these apart from a number of places in Caribbean - The West Indies are hosting Twenty 20 World Cup for Cricket !! Would you be surprised or just pass it ? Well, one of the big time cricket tournaments is about to start. Interestingly, the number of teams is 20 this time. US and West Indies are there as virtue of being the hosts. The US team has a lot of subcontinent origin players. Then we have Canada and well, Uganda made a cut this time, beating much more experienced Kenya and Zimbabwe this time. With Cricket also being a part of the announced Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, this tournament could be a springboard for a much wider International recognition for cricket. I am surprised at all the team names. How many teams we have now in this tournament?

20 teams. We have Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Oman, Ireland, Canada, US apart from the regular teams. The match timings are unsuitable though.

@arunima25 I too saw live till the Indian Innings ended. I caught up later through the highlights. It was a wonderful breakthrough by the Indian side.

@JudyEv The time zone difference between India and US/West Indies means many matches would start or end either very early in the morning or in late evening. Still, I can try catching up the matches. Also, the article states that the England vs Australia match would be starting at - 3 AM Australian time !!

@JudyEv The vast time zone difference presents such problems. Even a die hard cricket fan would find 3 AM as highly unsuitable.

@JudyEv Some people can be die hard fans. That is why one sometimes sees fans like "Barmy Army" travel thousands of miles to watch matches in major tournaments.

It should be interesting to have Cricket here. Though I still know nothing about the sport. Other than it's fun.

@just4him Cricket is gaining more traction with its shortest form - Twenty - 20. However, it is far behind Sports and Games like Football or Tennis as of now.

@just4him Who knows some future American team wins a big tournament and then Cricket would become even more popular in US!

I haven't watched any cricket sport before. This may be a sign to watch it now.

I don't think that many people would be knowing about cricket in Philippines. However, it could change in the coming times.
