New York Fire Department (NYPD) firefighter Joe Pendergast was on his way to work in Brooklyn New York in Friday morning when he saw smoke coming out of a burning apartment building. Joe went to the front door of the building when a lady told him that a fire that started in the first floor of the building was in the second floor of her duplex residence where a man tried to rescue nine puppies that were inside of her apartment. Joe was able to get to the second floor apartment where he was able to find an opening four feet wide that was clear for him to reach the man who tried to rescue the pups and get him out safely when the firefighters arrived to put out the flame quickly. The cause of the fire according to the fire marshal was lithium batteries that were on two e-bikes inside of the apartment caused the fire. Four puppies survived the fire, Joe and another firefighter were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries and released. Link is msn.com.en-us/news/us...

I'm glad the man was rescued; but I'm sorry that 5 pups lost their lives.

That's a harrowing story with a positive outcome for the most part. It's fortunate that Joe Pendergast was there to help and that most of the puppies survived. It's also a reminder of the dangers of lithium batteries and the importance of fire safety.

That is one reason I will not yet buy an electric car, as the batteries in them are known to catch fire too. That firefighter performed his duty even when not on duty, and risked his life to help the victims, and otherwise, it might have been far worse than it was.

The same reason I do not to have an electric auto due to the horror stories of fires while driving an auto.

I didn't know that lithium batteries can be so dangerous.
