THE ANTI-FINANCE BILL PROTESTS IN KENYA

When President Ruto’s regime came into power about two years ago, many Kenyans had high and great hopes. They had been promised better economic times, low cost of living, friendly trading terms and so forth. Things have recently taken a totally different turn. No jobs, increased cost of production for privately owned companies hence layoffs, increased prices of commodities and now, increased/ exorbitant taxation. This is why there have been protests in across the country. Most civilians feel the current president is greedy and unfit to lead the country. However, I feel it is a scene being created to keep the hungry, unemployed and hopeless youth from using their abilities well as those in power continue looting. Afterall, the same who are complaining of overtaxation waste a lot of money in gambling, drugs and alcohol!

It is so unfortunate that despite the enormous help and aid we receive from western countries, our leaders are still taxing us exorbitantly

I think it is harder for poorer countries to have good leadership than it is for the richer powers. Most can succumb to corruption and unfair practices but I think richer countries have better ways of controlling their leaders.
