We are social animals. We do seek companionship either as a friend or a relation. However, there are times, a relation breaks after long time and at times a relation ends in short time. Very lucky ones have relations going over lifetime. Experts state it is trust as the most essential in a relationship. Perhaps, even if we do not know what the other person is capable of doing, we should be cent per sure what the person should not do and that for me is the definition of trust. However, do not believe it is only factor which leads to a strong relationship. What do you think are the qualities essential in a strong relationship

Trust is formost important. Most of my relationships that did not last was because of Trust. Tom and I were friends..talked and enjoyed outings for a few months before it got serious. I learned from him dating other people what kind of person he was, and saw that he believes in telling the truth..not just in a relationship but in all aspects. But because of the past, I sometimes question what he Might be doing when he is with friends, but he always comes home and tells me about his time away. So IMO Trust is important as well as communication and respect of each other's space. Been with Tom almost 26 years...friends for 30 years.

For me, honesty is the most essential quality for a strong relationship.
When you trust the person you love, he or she should be honest in return to that trust you gave.
There are lots of things that can happen when you are not honest with one another.
Cheating is number one.
Next essential quality would be having an open communication.
you should tell each other everything since you are in a relationship.
Even if it is good or bad or something in between.

There are different types of relationship, though, and ones with family, are different than ones with friends.
I have never liked having strong relationships, and I prefer people to accept me as I am, in a relationship. I do not like relationships to grow too strong, as they often then can become a burden of dependence.
On the other hand, mutual respect, and giving time to others, certainly helps to foster a good relationship too.

You are right in pointing out that the over attachment in relationships can result in over dependence and burden. Thanks for sharing!
