We have 63 national parks in the United States. Yellowstone National Park is one of the largest spanning 3,471 square miles. It is partially in Idaho. Each year about 244 people go missing in the Idaho portion and many of those are never found. Stories are being shared all of the time on social media about groups of people taking off on hiking trips across parks and never being seen again. It is estimated that about 1,000 people have gone missing without a trace in national parks since 1916. Even day hikers should carry warm layers, water, food and some form of shelter just in case because even experienced hikers can lose their way. Being prepared and aware are vital when exploring our parks.

I have heard about that but didn't realize the high number of people that have gone missing. That's awful. I'm glad I don't like to hike.

Same here. I will always stay with others and not go off by myself.
