The picture above is of Roger ap Gwilliam from Doctor Who, played by Aneurin Barnard. He is a dangerous and corrupt politician in Doctor Who. (So, true to life then.) This monster in human form is from the year 2042 and wants to fire nuclear missiles. In the Doctor Who episode 73 Yards the Doctor and Ruby Sunday land on the Welsh coast in the modern day. The Doctor mentions Roger ap Gwilliam from the year 2042 as the worst example of the Welsh, then he disappears after stepping on a fairy circle and Ruby Sunday has to go through her whole life without the Doctor. But a mysterious woman accompanies her, staying exactly 73 yards away. Ruby can't approach her, because when she tries the woman always remains 73 yards away. But if anyone else approaches her and speaks to her they run away screaming in terror! Ruby goes through her life like this. Then she reaches the year 2042 and Roger ap Gwilliam is running for Prime Minister. Ruby joins the compain trail, her job? Holding the coats. She speaks to a girl called Matty who says Roger is a monster. Roger becomes Prime Minister and then they have an event at a football stadium. Everyone is told to keep off the pitch. Ruby asks one of the security what's so special about today and he says today's the day Roger gets the codes. Ruby says but it's just symbolic, right? He's not actually going to do anything with them? But obviously, he would! So Ruby goes onto the pitch, that she was told not to, and takes steps backwards using an app which tells her when she's 73 yards away from Roger ap Gwilliam. The mysterious woman is there by Roger and suddenly he runs away screaming and everyone follows him. Before you know it he's resigned as Prime Minister, and when asked why all he can say is, ask her! Eventually Ruby grows old, but on her death bed the mysterious woman for the first time comes close, but backwards, so Ruby never sees her face, and then Ruby is transported back in time to the cliff top by the beach in Wales and she watches The Doctor and young Ruby approach the fairy circle. It's like older Ruby is the mysterious woman 73 yards away. This time the Doctor does not disturb the circle, and the mystery woman disappears. So what happened to Ruby throughout her life in this episode was an alternative time line, and in the future, in 2042, Roger ap Gwilliam is still Prime Minister and is still a threat. In the episode Empire of Death they go forward in time to 2042 because Roger ap Gwilliam has put in place a law that everyone should be DNA tested, so they use this to find Ruby's birth mother. So, we need to see Roger ap Gwilliam again, because he's still out there, still dangerous and he could potentially destroy the world if the Doctor doesn't do something about it! And also, in Empire of Death, it is revealed that Ruby's birth father is called William, which has led to the fan theory that Roger ap Gwilliam is Ruby Sunday's long lost brother! (ap meaning 'son of' in Welsh.) What do you think?

It can be a bit complicated but I love it! This episode was very complicated and mysterious and many people couldn't understand what was going on but that's what I loved about it! The mystery. And, if I don't say so myself, Aneurin Barnard is rather easy on the eye.......

Very convoluted! I haven't watched Dr Who since I was a child, I don't remember it being that complicated then. I maybe I just didn't realise!

Very big word! I think there are some episodes that are more complicated than others. This episode was definitely one of the more complicated. Which Doctor do you remember watching?

@Fleura Yes, he's the first Doctor I remember watching! When you talk about Doctor Who a lot of people will immediately think of Tom Baker.

I don't think I've ever seen an episode. My SIL and BIL used to watch it all the time. Have a good day.

Ah, you don't know what you're missing! The thing I like about Doctor Who is that, because you can travel anywhere in time and space, you can tell any kind of story whatever!
