Today, I watched an old episode of "My 600 lb. Life". It featured a man named James, age 46 (at the time of filming) and over 700 lbs. He passed away three years after the filming of his episode, and I heard that he got a whole lot of hate online after his episode originally aired. My heart is just saddened by outcomes like this, it breaks for the people affected, his family and friends. I know he had a girlfriend as well as a daughter, and losing him had to be devastating for them. Even so, this highlights the dangers of extreme obesity, and the error of those who enable, and (arguably more grotesquely) glorify it. I'm not being "fatphobic", that would mean I'm irrationally fearful of fat people, if anything, I'm fearful FOR the morbidly obese.

The hate mail thing is never a good thing. At the same time, when someone lets themselves go to that extent, good outcomes cannot honestly be expected.

@porwest There have been people who have lost the weight, gotten healthier, and gone on to lead productive and fulfilling lives, but then there are the cases like what I wrote on here, the tragic ones. I have to wonder how anyone can think so little of their value that they do just let themselves go. The hate mail certainly is never good, I agree, if anything it exacerbates the problem. Life is precious, it's terrible when someone can't see that.
