Day 175 – Obedience
Deuteronomy 9:1 “Hear, O Israel: You are to cross over the Jordan today, and go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven, 2 a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you heard it said, ‘Who can stand before the descendants of Anak?’ 3 Therefore, understand today that JEHOVAH your Elohiym is He who goes over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; you will drive them out and destroy them, as JEHOVAH said to you. 4 Do not think in your heart, after JEHOVAH your Elohiym has cast them out before you, saying, ‘Because of my righteousness JEHOVAH brought me in to possess this land’; but because of the wickedness of these nations JEHOVAH drives them out from before you. 5 Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations JEHOVAH your Elohiym drives them out from before you, so that He may fulfill the word which JEHOVAH swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 6 Therefore, understand JEHOVAH your Elohiym does not give you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.
7 “Remember! Do not forget how you provoked JEHOVAH your Elohiym to wrath in the wilderness. From the day you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you rebelled against JEHOVAH. 8 Also, in Horeb you provoked JEHOVAH to wrath, so that JEHOVAH was angry enough with you to destroy you.
9 “When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which JEHOVAH made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. 10 Then JEHOVAH delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of Elohiym, and on them were the words which JEHOVAH had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. 11 It happened, at the end of forty days and forty nights, JEHOVAH gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. 12 Then JEHOVAH said to me, ‘Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly; they turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they made themselves a molded image.’ 13 Furthermore, JEHOVAH spoke to me, saying, ‘I have seen these people, and indeed they are a stiff-necked people. 14 Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.’
15 “I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire; and the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands. 16 I looked, and behold, you had sinned against JEHOVAH your Elohiym—had made for yourselves a molded calf! You had turned aside from the way which JEHOVAH commanded you. 17 Then I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands and broke them before your eyes. 18 I fell before JEHOVAH, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of your sin which you committed in doing wickedly in the sight of JEHOVAH, to provoke Him to anger. 19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which JEHOVAH was angry with you, to destroy you. JEHOVAH listened to me at that time also. 20 JEHOVAH was angry with Aaron and would have destroyed him; I prayed for Aaron also at the same time. 21 Then I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it and ground it, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the brook that descended from the mountain. 22 Also, at Taberah and Massah and Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked JEHOVAH to wrath. 23 Likewise, when JEHOVAH sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, ‘Go up and possess the land which I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the commandment of JEHOVAH your Elohiym, and you did not believe Him nor obey His voice.
24 “You have been rebellious against JEHOVAH from the day I knew you. 25 Thus, I prostrated myself before JEHOVAH; forty days and forty nights I kept prostrating myself, because JEHOVAH had said He would destroy you. 26 Therefore, I prayed to JEHOVAH, and said: 'O Adonay JEHOVAH, do not destroy Your people and Your inheritance whom You redeemed through Your greatness, whom You brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look on the stubbornness of this people, or on their wickedness or their sin, 28 lest the land from which You brought us should say, “Because JEHOVAH was unable to bring them to the land He promised them, and because He hated them, He brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.” 29 Yet they are Your people and Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your mighty power and by Your outstretched arm.’
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Adonay – Proper name of God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Consuming fire
Destroyer
Judge
Redeemer
Promise Keeper
How stubborn are you? Do you rebel against authority? Do you believe you know the answers and everyone else is wrong? How far will you go to prove your position?
Moses continued his narrative to Israel in how they rebelled against JEHOVAH and how JEHOVAH wanted to destroy them because they were rebellious and stiff-necked. Yet, he showed Israel how he stood in the gap for them and pleaded with JEHOVAH to save them. Moses showed Israel how JEHOVAH relented and did not destroy His people but brought them to the Jordan River to bring them into the Promised Land.
When you accepted Yeshuwa, JEHOVAH’S Son, as Savior and Lord, you committed your life to Him, to obey Him in everything. Yet how often do you argue with Him and try to dissuade Him from what He wants you to do for Him, or ignore Him, and refuse to do what He asked you to do?
Yeshuwa wants your total obedience to Him. He wants to know you will do what He asks without question or argument. When you do, you will find His blessings in your life. You will see His way is the best way.
What has Yeshuwa asked you to do? Did you do it or are you thinking about what He asked you? Don’t think about it, do it? When you do, Elohiym will bless you, and you will live in peace, knowing you obeyed Him.
As His child, He expects your obedience. It is no different than what you require of your children. When they disobey you, you punish them. When you disobey Elohiym, He will punish you. Determine to do what He asked you today and live in the blessings He promised you.
Let’s pray: Father, take away my rebellious heart and give me a heart of obedience to You. Let me see Your blessings in my life when I obey You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I certainly don't rebel against God; but I have learned to assert myself with those in authority when something is wrong and needs to be corrected. Have a blessed weekend.

Moses must have been on high terms with God to be able to persuade him not to destroy his people who rebelled against him so many times.
And yet, this was also a part of God's plan, as God only allows to take place what is in his plan.
