When I Grow Up

When I was little, my family owned rabbits, chickens, and ducks. We took good care of them. They had everything they needed.
One day, we came home and none of them were alive. It was hot out but that could not be the reason. It was almost always hot outside.
We never found out what happened to them. I was determined to become an animal doctor (veterinarian) when I grew up. I wanted to know why that happened.
My wish never came true.
What did you want to be when you grow up? Why were you interested in doing that? Did your desire come true?

Growing up I was tought the difference about realistic and unrealistic goals. I think I've blocked a lot of my childhood out, but then I think I turned out alright. I don't think housewife or caregiver were on the list. I'm thankful for it actually.

@akalinus According to research, Children's memories and abbility to recall don't really start until around the age of 5. There are rare exceptions, such as in your case, but it's not very common.

@kaylachan I remember things like running through the sprinkler on hot days, nothing really significant.

I wanted to be a Peace Corps volunteer, an airline stewardess or foreign correspondent. Although I did work with people and once applied for Vista, and have written quite a bit. I never did any of those jobs specifically.

Are you happy with the choices you made or does it make you sad that you did not do them? What kind of writing do you do?
I wrote an application for the Peace Corps but never heard anything about it. I thought about the airlines but the planes fly to high for me. I wanted to sign up for Vet Tech School but transportation was an issue.

@akalinus I would rather have done them or at least one of them, but life gets in the way They weren't extremely realistic for me.Although they might have been if I wanted them enough

@snowy22315 Yes, life does get in the way. Things just turn out different than what we thought it would be. Foreign correspondent sounds intriguing. Could you write about America for sites like Reuters?

@TheHorse Astronomy would be great. When you look up in the night sky and imagine other worlds there, it blows your mind. My husband and I looked at the stars. Someone gave us a telescope which helped a lot.
I put some spacescapes from NASA in a slideshow on my lock screen. I am humbled and amazed every time I see them.
I am not good at sports. My eyes don't work together and I am too late in reacting because of it.

I loved watching television when I was little. I was 8 years old when I saw an episode of Big Valley I didn't like and said I could write it better. That's when I started writing. My dream came true of becoming an author in 2012. I'm still waiting for the rest of my dream to come true - best-selling author. I like to dream big, so I also want to see my books become movies and TV series with the 10-book series I'm planning.

You have big plans. I hope you become a best-selling author. For movies, I think you need lots of action and memorable characters. You write mysteries, right?
I know an author who is a bestseller on Amazon. I read part of one of her books. It seems to be about sexy characters in space and some of their relationship problems.

@akalinus Maths has been my love.I always liked to have my own business.I failed to be a mathematician;but I struggled to have a business of my own and now I have one.I still love maths. The beauty and mystery of numbers attracts me.It has nothing to do with livelihood.

Did you ever find out what happened to the animals? First I wanted to be a ballerina and later an artist. Up until I was already in my first job in NYC I went for acting lessons but that did not work out either,

That would have been devastating to lose all your pets in one go. I wonder if they were poisoned in some way. Weed killer, perhaps?

I just wanted to survive my childhood and when I was able to move out of my mother's house, which I was able to do at 17, 2 weeks after I graduated from high school.
I think at one time I would like to be a nurse, but my grade sucked (I worked 2-3 jobs so I could move out of my mother's house), and I knew I wouldn't be accepted at a good nursing school. Later, when I was 23-24, I did go to a community college and became an EMT. I did that for about 5-6 years.

Life often interrupts your dreams and you are stuck in a job you don't care about. It is sad, but it is the real world. EMTs are part of the medical world. I bet you have interesting stories to tell about that job. Can you write about some of those experiences, fake names of course.

I always talked about becoming a veterinarian, so I could work closely with dogs, cats and horses.

@akalinus I always wanted a horse, but never owned one. Dogs and cats, we had many of those. My family was poor. At 18 years old, I chose marriage over college.

What a sad story about the animals. I always wanted to get into serious acting. I was good at it and good at improv. My mother had other aspirations for me. I started out as a secretary and advanced into management and owning my own business. I also wanted to be a writer. I wrote a children's book in rhyme that I haven't had published yet. Have a good day.

@akalinus It's about a girl and her cat and the adventures they have in a day.
