I want to warn you all, my friend texted me yesterday morning asking me if I had got a letter from Social Security saying that I could no longer access my account as usual and that I was going to have to open a new account on this other page and it gave a link. I looked on my email, even searched for it and no I didn't get one.
So she checked with one of her sister's and she didn't get one either.
There might be a scam going around. So beware if you are on Social Security.

You don't have to be on social security to get scammed like that. Thankfully your friend did the right thing and didn't take it as face value. No self-respecting ligit company is ever going to call or e-mail asking you to give personal information, or go to another site that's not the offical site.

@kaylachan I had never seen it. My friend got it day before yesterday for the first time and she asked me if I got one.

@dfollin You really do need to be careful. And, that's not new, or really that recent. It's been going on for years.

I read an article on Bing early today that SS might send out an email. But who knows. My latest reading about scams says if you question anything like this don't do anything. Call them.

We have a reliable bank that makes SURE we don't get scammed
that they give us a call on such stuff as that, thank god for small banks.

@dfollin I know it's not through the bank, but when some 1 comes asking
about such stuff it puts the bank on awareness & they warn us about it.

Never respond or bother on such messages , whether it is mail or text or any other place. I had once received a call , stating they are from Central Bank and needed my card details. I blasted them and cut the call. A few year ago, there was always mail from some Nigerian prince or businessman who wants to share his wealth . Worse, there are few who fell for it . Scammers always looks for new and old ways to scam people .Thanks for pointing out this scam.

Yes, those are very similar to the schemes we have in place here. I suppose everyone should know that links included in text messages should already raise red flags because they can not be trusted. It is discouraged here that when government agencies release official messages, they include links in their communications.
