Well, howdy, everyone. I hope you enjoyed the musical trip through Texas in July. It’s time for a new countdown.
Too much country music in Texas? Well, there’s a cure for that. August will feature songs with “rock” or “rock and roll” in the title.
That means no Jim Reeves in August.
But, oddly enough, the first two songs are NOT rock songs…one’s bluegrass and one’s country.
(Sorry Linda.)
And then there’s this, the teaser for the month. “Rock and Roll Waltz” by Kay Starr. Heck, even I don’t know what this is!
We’ll be rockin’ all month long!

Her voice is familiar, but don't know the song. It was nice though.

This and “Wheel of Fortune” were her two biggest hits.

@RasmaSandra — no, I don’t remember it because I wasn’t born yet.
Most scholars give “first rock song” credit to “Rocket 88, but you can hear the genesis of rock and roll in the swing/hot jazz of the 30s.

@FourWalls somewhere I read that It's Alright Mama was among the very first rock songs. Remember when Elvis sang this?

One, two, and then rock! Oh yeah, I remember this one. But youtube got it wrong: it was on a 78rpm platter, not a 45rpm frisbee.

Yep, the 78 didn’t go the way of the dinosaur until 1959 or so.

I know the name; but I'm not familiar with her music. Have a good day.
