Day 196 – Choice
Deuteronomy 30:1 “Now it will happen, when these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among the nations where JEHOVAH your Elohiym drives you, 2 and you return to JEHOVAH your Elohiym and obey His voice, according to everything I command you today, you and your children, with your entire heart and with your entire soul, 3 that JEHOVAH your Elohiym will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from the nations where JEHOVAH your Elohiym scattered you. 4 If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under heaven, from there JEHOVAH your Elohiym will gather you, and from there He will bring you. 5 Then JEHOVAH your Elohiym will bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you will possess it. He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers. 6 JEHOVAH your Elohiym will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love JEHOVAH your Elohiym with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. 7 Also, JEHOVAH your Elohiym will put these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you. 8 You will again obey the voice of JEHOVAH and do His commandments which I command you today. 9 JEHOVAH your Elohiym will make you abound in the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land for good. For JEHOVAH will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over your fathers, 10 if you obey the voice of JEHOVAH your Elohiym, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to JEHOVAH your Elohiym with your entire heart and with your entire soul.
11 “For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love JEHOVAH your Elohiym, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and JEHOVAH your Elohiym will bless you in the land which you go to possess. 17 However, if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other elohiym and serve them, 18 I announce to you today that you will perish; you will not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love JEHOVAH your Elohiym, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which JEHOVAH swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Elohiym – Supreme God
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Just
Holy
Why is obedience so hard? Children fight against their parents’ authority, wanting to do things their way. When they enter the workforce, they come against the authority of their employer, and try to do things their way. Everywhere, in every situation in life, people rebel against authority. Yet, when they learn obedience brings better results, they relent.
Moses continued his discourse about what JEHOVAH would do for Israel if they obeyed Him. He would bring them back from captivity and bless them abundantly in everything they did. Moses also gave them a choice when he set before them life or death, blessing or cursing.
When you accept Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you accept JEHOVAH’S law. Christians want to discount the law because they argue they are under grace. They are. However, when you follow the Ten Commandments, and do those things that are right according to the law, JEHOVAH’S blessing will cover everything you do.
Romans 7:7 What will we say then? Is the law a sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You will not covet.”
8 However sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me every manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.
9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
10 The commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.
12 Therefore, the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
What do you want for your life? Do you want to be a stranger to Elohiym and live according to your own rules? Or do you want JEHOVAH’S blessing on your life and live in obedience to Him? The same choice Moses gave Israel is your choice: life or death, blessing or cursing. Choose wisely.
Let’s pray: Father, David said Your law was his delight for by it, he knew Your amazing love for him. Let Your law delight me as I choose life and blessing, living wholly unto You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

When God allowed us to think freely, he needed to give us commandments, so that we could then choose freely the right way to live, and to live by God's commandments.
The choice remains ours, but if we make it with our heart of love for God, we will always overcome our mind's inclinations to want to sin, through greed, jealousy, and other evil ways.
