7 August - What I'm Thankful for Today

Good afternoon from a wonderfully cool Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. Right now, it's 75 F and feels like 78 F. I'm not going to say today was a good day. Nor will I make this a negative post. I had a meltdown. However, today helped me through what happened. I also learned something about myself in the process, so that's a good thing. If you read yesterday's thankful post, you know I had Writer's Guild last night. It was far from what I expected. We did a critique of each other's work on their work. Pens came out. When I got my two pages of Wilderness Cry back from everyone who read it, I was devastated. Hense the meltdown. I was angry. I saw two pages of notes in margins, lines, arrows, and comments on the back of the second page. I was overwhelmed by it all. I literally couldn't handle it. Everything that happens, happens for a reason and if you can't find something good in the situation, you're not trying hard enough. I'm thankful for today. I'm thankful for rock painting. I didn't want to go, but I didn't want to stay home either. I called my friend to make sure what time she was picking me up. She forgot it was Wednesday. I apologized to her for last night. She said it was okay and Karma as she had things happen too. I'm thankful for the walk along the Fox River Trail and City Deck before rock painting. I walked from the ADRC to the Main Street Bridge. I got some great pictures along the way and talked to a woman Army Recruiter who has been in the Army for 18 years. She even thanked me for my service as a Vietnam Veteran. I was wearing my Navy hat. The walk helped a lot with what I went through last night. I'm thankful for the work I did on Wilderness Cry when I got home from rock painting. I read the comments and found they weren't as bad as I first thought. I could handle it, and did. I'm no longer angry, and feeling much better. I'm thankful for the time I spent here today. It's good to know how you're doing in your world. Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me of a pelican on the river with the Main Street bridge in the background. I had all my steps by the time I got back to the ADRC. What are you thankful for today?

It sounds like you were just shocked at first, but today turned it all around. It will make your book that much better I'm guessing!! I miss seeing the pelicans that fly down south on the LSU lakes every year when I was working. That may be the best thing I miss! Oh wait, there are a couple of friends I miss!! I'm thankful that my husband figured out what was making him sick!! Post coming soon on that. And also for a good day today at the boutique! Boy was I busy!

@just4him I'm glad you were able to sort it all out and edit to make it better. Sometimes we just have to open our minds and try to see things from a different perspective and angle to see how we can improve. Yes, the hubby was about to end up in the hospital over this ordeal.

@kareng I agree. I'll go at it from another perspective next time. I'll hand out a copy to each person instead of having it all on one copy. I'm glad he didn't.

Yes, it was a shock. Yes, it is much better. They're beautiful birds. I only started seeing them a couple of years ago. I never got a good picture of them, but I did yesterday. I'm sorry you miss them and some of your friends you used to work with. I'm glad your husband figured out what's making him sick. A busy day is a good day.

I am thankful Chilly is still with us. It won't be long before he crosses rainbow bridge. I am thankful he found the energy to get on the foot of George's couch. That's where he wants to be. I just got George's second tube of the day done, and I'm thankful I didn't squash chilly or elbo him in the ribs. I did move Chilly a little closer to the edge of the couch so we won't hit him. He's resting comfortably now. I don't think I'll need to put him up today. He won't try to door dart. I know how you felt. We ask for critiques and critisims, but it can hit hard when you get them. You just need to take the time to process them, and it'll be okay. We're here for you, too.

I'm glad Chilly is still with you. Thank you. Without reading them first, they look terrible and overwhelming. When I read them, they weren't what I feared but were positive critiques. That I can handle.

@just4him That's understandable. It can be scarry at first when you just see a lot of lines and words and things. You're welcome.

I'm glad you had time with your daughter and granddaughter. When you look at the pages, it looks terrible. When I read the comments, it wasn't as bad as I thought. God is GOOD all the time and helped me through it.

Critiques are a downer, but if we don't know that our work is not right we will just keep doing it wrong. Sounds like you had a lovely day. I am grateful that I woke up today and every day I wake up I am grateful. Grateful that I have the best friend and fishing partner to help me through this trying time with my leg. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Although things started not on a right note , it turned out to be better. Glad you were able to handle things. Great to know you were an Army Veteran . For me I am thankful I am still able to hold up to the fight inspite of having no progress for a long time. My career, my finance and my personal life has been on a standstill and have not seen any progress for past few months. There has been slight improvements regarding my reduction of debt levels but I still have considerable debt and would need atleast 4 years to clear. At times I wish I get a better earning prospect to take of my finances. Hopefully, things will get better .

Yes, everything is better now. Thank you. I'm a Navy Veteran. I hope your life starts moving in the right direction and you can reduce your debt sooner than four years from now.

Sometimes critiques are hard to take, especially when you put so much effort into your work. I’m thankful although my acupuncturist had to cancel today, she was able to reschedule for it tomorrow.

Critquing is a subtle art. You agree with the assertions or your gut says no. I'm grateful that I'm able to endure physical therapy and to feel stronger- having my posture critiqued is not one bit hilarious.
