I Suddenly Remembered the Cancer Tree

When my family was young, we bought a house. The front yard was divided by a sidewalk that led up to the steps. On one side, a tree grew. It was an ugly tree. It had bumps and lumps all over it. As it grew, the lumps kept getting bigger. The tree became twisted and more unattractive. We called it the cancer tree. My husband cut it down. We planted grass seeds and rocked off a section for flowers. The grass did not grow. The flowers came up and quickly withered away. We could never get anything to grow in that section again. What do you think? Did you ever hear of something like that? What could have caused this and what should we have done differently? It is one of those things in life that I cannot forget. I also do not understand. Why does its memory still haunt me?

Ugly trees should not be let grow in our houses.Such ugly trees and trees having thorns are evil. This is our faith and we follow it.

I did not know that. I never thought of plants as evil. I thought they just were.

It was more likely something tainted in the soil.

@akalinus We had dirt hauled in to create a berm years ago, and nothing would grow in that area. It turned out that the dirt was 'treated' and that why it was such a low price-little did we know.

I don't know why I did not consider that before this discussion. I thought that the soil was good on the other side of the walk so it would be good on that side too.

I just started thinking about that. The house we lived in was once a barrel factory. Maybe someone had a barrel of something and dumped it.

Maybe there were contaminants in the soil which affected whatever was planted there.

That is the only way I could think of to describe it.
