Watching YouTube one night I came across this bizarre tale of a NYC cop, Gil Valle, who had fantasies of cannibalism. (Yeah, can you believe it?) So, of course, I couldn't just move on to other things. I watched the amazing story of a 40-year-old New York City cop who had discussed online his fantasies about kidnapping, torturing, raping, killing, and cannibalizing various women. He used the cop database to find addresses and other information on these women. A girlfriend found out about his fetish and contacted the authorities. He was convicted in 2015 of conspiracy to commit these acts along with computer fraud(Computer Fraud and Abuse Act or CFAA) and sentenced to 21 months. A judge acquitted him of the conspiracy charges ruling that the prosecution had not proven Valle's online communications went beyond just fantasy and went even further ruling that Valle's misuse of the police database did not constitute a violation of the CFAA. He has written several books and is a full-time writer now. I found out that cannibalism is only illegal in the state of Idaho. Even the UK has no specific law against it.

It's only illegal in Idaho????!!!! Yikes. I'm surprised Gil only received 21 months. And now he's an author! Have a good long weekend.

I thought it was an amazing story on several levels. I think the judge mostly charged him for the fraudulent use of the database, not any of the other things.
