Advancing Technology could Save Our Trees

Demand for trees for manufacturing paper and furniture is decreasing, thanks to advancing technology. Our upcoming children longer consume a lot of paper products in their studies; they are now using computers and tablets. The other day i visited a public library in our city, Nairobi and was bemused to learn that may books have been digitized! Synthetic plastic furniture is taking over traditional woody furniture. Many households are now using biogas and solar energy for cooking and lighting as opposed to when they relied on firewood and charcoal. I think these changes are likely to reduce the rate of deforestation!

I agree that we are probably using less wood than we once were. That's a very good thing.

We have a long way to go before that happens. Don't forget wood is used in other applications and is heavily relied on in some industeries. Although some companies embrace recyceling. It just depends.

These are definitely steps in the right direction for reducing deforestation. Hopefully, these changes will continue to make a positive impact on our environment.

My hopes too. However encroachment by urban development is still a huge threat

Cut both ways. It's good that the environment will be healthier if there are trees and the use of digital is simpler. What's worse is that wood craftsmen will earn less income.
