Should we choose our career based on personality tests?

Recently I met a bunch of teenagers who are trying to choose a career based on personality assessments. Surprisingly, none was going with their passions or interests or it seems they have no such interest. Perhaps their parents have not provided the right suggestions or perhaps the focus is on money. I do agree personality assessments can give insights to strengths and indirectly potential career choices. However, I feel it is not exactly right to choose careers just based on personality assessments. They do not account for personal interests or passions. Plus, people evolve over time, so assessment or aspirations can change over a period of time. My take is personality assessment tool should one of the tools in decision-making for career. So what you take on this?

I agree. You have to chose a career based on your interests. You might have to start at a job you don't like, but that's just to gain experience while you either go to school or whatever the case might be. At the end of the day you have to do what makes you happy.

I believe that personality is not always a basis to pursue a career and it's in your skills that you have

I guess if you really don't know your skills, or if a person does not really know what to take in the future it can be a help. But I guess if a person really know what he wants to do in life, and can view his future, there is no use of taking personality test.

That makes sense. If we know our strengths and skils, there is less point in taking assessment tests. Thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure how accurate those personality tests are in predicting a career path. As you state, they do not account for the career fields your drawn to. They did not for me. I think they are just subjective patterns rather than accurate predictors.
