I have a feeling it's going to be a long night.

For the past hour, my Ring app has been lighting up with people asking if their area is going to flood. A lot of people apparently moved here in the last year and never went through Ian. That being said, now isn't the time to be asking.
Militon is still expected to make landfall on the West coast of Florida and exit right around Daytona Beach where I live. We've been getting rain on and off for the past two days with more expected ahead of Milton on Wednesday. Models change the timeline slightly, but we'll start to feel it somewhere around mid afternoon wednesday reguardless of landfall. You should NOT be asking if you're in a flood zone. You have less then twenty-four hours to get out if that's your concern. Many interstates are gridlocked even if shoulder access has been granted.
Where did our parents and schools fail our kids?
The news has posted for two days, places to look up evucation zones, and how to find out where and when you should leave if you're so inclined. People with disabilities or elderly are encouraged to register if you need assistance leaving.
....and you're posting on Ring, really?
Thankfully when midnight hits my phone's notifications will quiet down. and it kind of has for the time being. Honestly I don't know weather I want to laugh or cry or bash my head into a wall at the insanity I'm seeing and the storm isn't even here yet.

I have no idea. If you've been following the news, we have websites and phone numbers posted all over the place to get help. We have zones listed for our county now, and that was as of the 11 o'clock update.

@rakski Yeah. It's a mistake because you're going to get mixed signles and differences of opinion. You shouldn't stay in a place if you're questioning if it's safe. And, if your biggest concern is if your car is going to be damaged in flood waters..... then maybe you should pack it and your famly up and get lost.

I would give them the compassion you would want from them if you were concerned. Even if they had lived in Florida, this storm is bigger than Katrina.
So maybe just tell them you're okay. And make sure they are okay.

Is this coming from the same person who seems to think the storm won't affect you? Don't be fooled by early models. Once it hits, it'll come in hard and fast. Predictions keep changing in terms of inpacts. I'm under no illusion we won't see damage this time.
At the same time, I have the right to get annoyed by how people are acting. One person who posted, was more worried about their car being in the parking lot then their own personal safety. They think they'll be safe on the third floor. I've been through many hurricanes where roofs have been ripped away or colapsed. There's a big concern from the rain we've had thus far, plus the rain we're expected that more trees will come down. So, I feel justified in telling that person that if they're that worried about their car, then maybe they should get to higher safer ground while they can, because in the case of a flood you'd be trapped for days.

That's possible, but the problem with that is you're going to get mixed messages and difference of opinion. Because not everyone is going to treat this storm the same or take it nearly as seriously. Four to five feet of storm surge on the back end of a storm, isn't anything new for most folks. We have a lot of highrises and sky scrapers that line the aarea protecting inland daytona from storm surge. Now beach side will more than likely be under water. We won't be as safe from rain or wind though, which often is predicted to be worse then what we actually get.
On the plus side, holding as a Cat 5 and moving as slowly as it is, will give the cold front more of a chance to weaken it before it hits landfall.

@kaylachan I hope it gets weaker.

@jstory07 We know it will at least be a cat 3. While that by no means is less dangerous, it's better then a cat 4 or 5 It's size is what'll cause the dangerous storm surge which is the main topic of concern.

No. And I really want to be compassionate. But I worry about humanity sometimes.

Yeah, I guess many people have never experienced a hurricane threat before.
Me neither, to be honest. I'd be up all night following the news, except I'd be listening and not asking much.

Many think you're safter higher up and I know that's not true. Tonarodos come out of the thunderstorms caused by the storms. Then you have hurricane rain.... and.... I could go on but I won't.
