One of the most popular yet powerful marketing technique is celebrity endorsements. By associating with a particular celebrity, the product hopes to get into the fan base and increase the appeal of the product. However, question is can celebrity endorsements be trusted or they are deceptive? We definitely know the celebrities are paid huge sum of money for their endorsements. But does the endorsement guarantee authenticity? Celebrities are definitely not experts about the product they are promoting, at least in most cases. There are cases where a celebrity would promote a certain brand and after sometime would promote the rival brand. Although done at different timeframes, that still erodes credibility. There are some who have views that consumers should view endorsements in a different light and should see them as marketing strategies. There are only few endorsements which are really meaningful for some of the celebrities. What’s your opinion on same?

@TheHorse I have heard stories from the late Babe Ruth that he did not eat the cereal he endorsed on the radio during his playing days.

@Deepizzaguy Did he admit that long after he was done endorsing the product? I wonder if all the Wheaties athletes ate Wheaties at least once, so they could say they had.

I put absolutely no stock in celebrity endorsements. They make me suspicious more than anything else.

If that is about money or business that encourage people to join I think we better think a thousand times before getting into it... in our country even our celebrities were scammed by the company that they endorsed, some of them were put into prison. That's so sad you know, because some of those celebrities is quite nice, but sadly they are not equipped to check on details before endorsing. So no. I think we all need to check on the products and to the company that they are endorsing... coz none of it can guarantee that we will all benefit from it... and yes you are right, celebrities are also endorsing the rival brand of their previous endorsement after the contract was finished. Lol!

Yeah, I'd look into the celebrity's history and see what products they endorsed before. It takes time to build trust after all, right?
