Still good after all these years

Last week I felt like a little treat so I asked if we could all watch ‘Oh Brother, Where art Thou?’ for the evening. I have already seen that film at least twice but not for many years and the rest of the family hadn’t seen it. Of course it’s always a risk suggesting something you love, like a book or film, to others, because if they don’t like it it almost feels like a personal rebuff, but I hoped the girls would enjoy it as they are both really into the Greek myths. So we all settled down to watch and thankfully yes, everyone did really enjoy it. And I loved it just as much as the first time. I have seen a couple of the Coen brothers other films and I wasn’t crazy about those, but this one is an absolute classic. It doesn't feel like it was made 24 years ago either. And I love the songs too! I could watch it again tomorrow and still enjoy it. Have you seen this film and did you like it? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2024.

I haven't seen this. I've suggested a film from time to time and you're so right! Other people might think it's the pits and then I'm really embarrassed. At least, I am.

My partner and I don't share the same taste in films and books at all, although we do mostly enjoy the same comedies such as Red Dwarf and Terry Pratchett books. That's the one thing I would change if I could. In a past relationship we used to sit in bed reading each other stories such as Winnie the Pooh, Pride and Prejudice, Jeeves and Wooster and the like. I can't do that now because even if we do like the same thing (we do actually both enjoy the P.G. Wodehouse stories) he speed reads so doesn't want to listen to me reading at 'normal' pace!

@JudyEv @fleura I used to read to my wife in bed (not always, just sometimes, among other stuff) but she always fell asleep very quickly. We don’t like each other’s tastes in literature.

This is the best in my opinion. It helps if you have a basic knowledge of the Odyssey.

I never saw the movie, but I owned the soundtrack and knew the songs by heart.
