There are other stories as terrible as those I told you about. In that CD there is a song based on a poem tht Dixie wrote about one of her friends who disappeared during Pinochet´s coup. The story was terrible and moving. And I remembered one of my friends of the time I went to parties. I invited him to my wedding although it wasn´t a big wedding. His mom gave me a beautiful dish I still have as a wedding gift. Georges parents had been in Auschwitz and they had survived. They fled from Europe. He was born in Canada and they decided to raise their son in Chile thinking that nothing wrong would happen here. And the coup came. And George, then studying medicine, had become a close friend of President Allende. He was at the Government Palace when it was bombed. They took out all the people that were inside. And they made them lay on the floor and killed them. I learned for sure what had happened to him several years later when I read about this from one of the survivors (Sergio Bitar "Dawson") A movie was also made about that book. But memory is frail Try to keep your good and bad memories alive, friends. They are all important.

@anya12adwi During Pinochet´s time, many Chileans were tortured, killed or just disappeared.

You are right that I try my best to have good memories of persons who are no longer with us.

It can and it does. Lately, here, they found out the one of the strongest men in the government had raped a woman. He is now in custody while the case is being studied.

It is. His GF fled to Brazil with their baby daughter and last year, 50 years after the coup, this daughter came back to read something to her father she had not known. A museum of memory has been built here. But nothing is enough.

That is just so, so sad. You are never really safe anywhere.

Things like that happen everywhere. They are happening now under our noses.
