Too Fast!

Came across this scene a couple of Sundays ago, next to Heathrow airport. Someone travelling a bit too fast has managed to mangle two sets of railings and doubtless didn’t do their vehicle any good either! The lower photo shows it is a gentle curve as you approach a set of traffic lights, behind me, so it probably encourages people to keep their speed up. There is a sign warning of the traffic lights, but I guess once you’ve seen one sign you seen them all! It does make me feel that these railings are all about corralling pedestrians.

That had me wondering if they have a stock of rails ready to go. This isn't the only railing hit around here

There is a lot of new development around us and the corner houses are being built really close to roads. We regularly read about cars ploughing into a house even if there's a brick wall to be knocked over first.

@Ronrybs Our roads are wider than some of yours but that encourages too much speed too.

@JudyEv I saw a YouTube short documentary about how wider roads encourage speeding

Same here, but a lot of older houses were built before cars and are particularly vulnerable to cars driven recklessly

I think it is meant to stop people walking across the road before the lights and cutting off the corner

@anya12adwi Despite being laid out as required, it is confusing. I guess we have just gotten used to it

I wonder how long after they get fixed, they will get mangled again.

Get rid of the boy racers and they may last longer!

@thislittlepennyearns Can't say I've heard the term girl racers, but they are likely out there!

@Ronrybs Ha. By boy racers do you mean anything with male appendages?

Only a few people seem to use it. It is a couple of miles walk to the nearest houses

i hope there weren't any pedestrians walking there and also that the person driving is fine. maybe he/she learns something from that mistake.
