Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy

I watched a new documentary on Netflix. I never liked Amazon and I don't use it unless I have to. This dates back years since I started hearing how badly they treat their employees and such. The documentary just makes me like them less. Amazon, Apple, and some other big-name corporations all have complex and highly refined systems of how they make so much money. I knew they had their ways but had no idea just how weird it all gets. They push to motivate the consumer to buy, buy, buy. We just click a button and it arrives on our doorsteps. About 2.5 million pairs of shoes are produced each hour. There are 68,733 phones produced each hour and, 12 tons of plastic produced each second. Yeah, that's a lot. Actually getting rid of these products when we are done with them doesn't exist. They just appear somewhere else on this Earth. And, that as we know has its consequences. The cornerstone of a successful business to reduce the product's efficiency. Make it so the consumer has to have more. They have to replace the one they have. There are about 13 million phones thrown out daily. Expensive as they are repairing has become a thing of the past. Those who want to repair them are actively discouraged wherever possible. You can't even get into the back of most phones now. Repair manuals on products have disappeared. Lawyers are going out of their way to sensor any knowledge of how to repair products. Take the earbuds for instance--- the batteries degrade and there is no way to replace them. Big corporations are actually destroying their products rather than lowering prices because this could hurt their brand. Why not give it to charity? Their comeback is that they don't want to be the brand that homeless people are wearing. Amazon throws away 130,000 items a day. That's about 5 million pounds annually. Think of the emissions. And I only watched half of the doc and was to angered to go on. Your thoughts.

I hate to hear the words "thrown away" instead of "giving away" or "recycled". Have a good week.

I agree. Not like we need more trash to dispose of.

There are stores here that sell that returned stuff... Binz, Big Bins, something like that. And people go crazy looking for deals there, ripping open packaging, tossing contents around if it's not what they want. Prices start at $25 on the first day, going down to $1 on the last day of the week and you're lucky to find anything intact. But people still crowd these stores, frantic to find a deal.

All I can say is that - that's why they are rich. Rich and successful people are very smart and know how to sell their products. I think maybe they have their own way how to give back to the community they are just quiet about it. And I don't think I have the right to judge them, its their invention and their way to bring lots of money, jobs for the people, and taxes to the country. As lng as they are not hurting anyone, that's okay.
