Courtship in the good old days

We had six months of courtship before we said "I do" But these days I wonder if there is the need for this as most couples already know each other and they sometimes have a living in relationship.
We met through a mutual friend and after making enquiries we got engaged within a couple of weeks and got married after six months.
What I discovered was that those six months were so different from knowing each other after marriage.
What is your thinking on this

Yes Even though it's not a hundred percent to know one fully but it does help to some extent

Many people don't get married here anymore. They live together

Wonder what the benefit is just living together and not getting married.

Somehow getting married does change a relationship.Friends have told me this, when they got married after several years of living together! And I have known two couples who married after several years together and then not long afterwards got divorced!

It does not mean that a married life is not a happy life but one gets to know each others faults and shortcomings
