Ah, here’s where we can get confused. There was a band called After the Fire, who did the hit “Der Kommissar.” This isn’t related to them or it.
And you know me: if there are certain people I can use, I will. So here he is.
After the Fire - Roger Daltrey
That’s two in a row, right? After Robert Palmer, we get another doll-baby!
Pete Townshend originally wrote this as a song for The Who. However, they didn’t get to record and play it at Live Aid, so Roger Daltrey did it solo on his planned release Under a Raging Moon.
Townshend said he wrote it explicitly about the hunger situation in the countries throughout Africa, which Live Aid sought to address through fundraising. Although it wasn’t specifically a Who song, with the primary songwriter writing it and the primary lead singer singing it, it might as well have been a Who song.
It’s a powerful song, that’s for certain.

I’ve seen The Who in concert. They were great! Some iconic tunes and Roger did a few good’uns when he went solo.
Excellent choice!

They did some great music, as a band and solo (Pete’s Empty Glass for instance). When I was 15 Elton John was my teenybopper idol, so I went to see Tommy for him. I left a Who fan (especially Roger
)…even though I’m sure most guys just remember Ann-Margaret and the beans….
