Weird Family Story w/A Lesson

I remember a family story from years ago. My father's mother (my grandma) is said to have taken a frying pan to his stepfather's head (in self defense, after he tried to slap her.)
I don't know why that sticks in my mind, but the man never raised a hand to her again as long as they were together.
