We Had Conveyer-Belt Sushi! (Again!)

When my husband and I went on our honeymoon in Japan, one of the fun things we did was go to a restaurant in Tokyo where you would sit at a bar facing a conveyer belt. Sushi chefs would make individual servings of sushi on little plates, load them onto the belt, and when you saw something you liked, you would just grab it as it went past you. You would create a little stack of plates beside you, and at the end, you were charged per plate.
That was a long, long time ago, in a country far, far away (we live in the United States). We have plenty of places in our city to get sushi, but not conveyer-belt sushi. Until NOW!
Yesterday (Saturday), we went out to a brand-new place that does it. It's called Shinjuku Station, which is the name of a very busy subway station in Tokyo. The restaurant has subway signs and a map of the Tokyo subway line, as well as a large screen that shows Japanese "anime" (animated films). Besides getting your sushi off a conveyer belt, you can also place an order for specific items, which can be brought to you by your server, or by an adorable robot (pictured), or by a mini subway train that has its own track above the conveyer belt (one of our orders was delivered that way)!
Since orders can come from the kitchen as well as on the conveyer belt, the restaurant just charges one "all-you-can-eat" price. We had a VERY long wait to get seated (about an hour and a half), but overall, it was a very fun experience!

That sounds great! I read a story about two weeks ago about two guys in Japan getting arrested for putting “foreign liquid” on items on the sushi conveyor belt. I don’t want to know what it was.
I’d definitely go to one. It sounds great! It must have been a great experience.

Yikes, that sounds awful! Definitely not typical Japanese behaviour. I'm glad they got arrested.

@AmbiePam maybe it was tourists? They can get up to some ornery things...

We haven't been to those conveyor belt type sushi places since before covid times! It's fun but it can get super expensive (all you can eat sounds better!). I've only seen one place locally that has that robot. We didn't go into the restaurant, but on one side it's a glass wall so from the outside you could see the robot in action with the customers. That's cool you got to experience it!

I'm hoping we get the robot next time, but the little train was also super cute.

That sounds like such a fun experience! Conveyor-belt sushi is such a cool concept, and the robot and mini subway train delivery make it even better. Definitely worth the wait for something so unique!

I have to say, we were kind of frustrated at the long wait, but it really was worth it!

That sounds fun. We had sushi on conveyor belt many years ago here. I enjoy going there to eat once in a while. Delivery by robot or mini subway train is cool.

The little train was really darling! I hope we get the robot some time, too.

It does sound like fun, almost like being at an amusement park.
