Since sometime last year, we had been planning a trip to a religious place.
It is quite some time away from our place.
Yet we had to change our plan due to some unforeseen development.
So sometime from Mid March, we started talking about an alternate place for a short trip.
We wanted a mix of rest and exploration.
Finally we settled on exploring the city of Dehradun and its surroundings.
For records, Dehradun is a city that is in a valley in the Himalayas
and is the capital of the state of Uttarakhand in North India.
Now a trip does cost and based on our discussions, we wanted a good enough place to stay.
Yes, the amount was good enough but then we were having a trip after 2 years and wanted to avoid
some inconveniences of the last time.
Plus we would not be having too many trips in the coming years due to multiple constraints so
we decided to go for a good Hotel and Train reservation within our budget.
By 1st/2nd April, we had done the booking of Train and Hotel.
I did not go for flight option as that would have almost doubled our per person expense.
Anyways, even some new Trains in India these days are not much less than an Airplane in comfort.
Stay Glued for more........ Especially if you like to go through a Series.

I think I would rather go on a train than fly.
I like a series.
So I will stay glued for more

Thanks for sharing your views.
Yes, if trains are neat and comfortable, they are in a way better than planes.
But yes, flying in an Airplane has its own charm.

Yes many airports are bigger and there are more hassles and lines to follow. Not so complex in the case of Trains at the railway stations.

This is because most of the Indian Railways are subsidized to keep the fares manageable for most of the trains for common folks.
The same would not be the case in your country.

Plus we now have much more Modern and Traveler friendly trains - not much below in quality than Airplanes.
And at 1/2 or 1/3 Rd rates

Yes, even a 4-5 days trip costs a lot if we want proper travel, stay and local travel.
Plus we also need to pay good enough cab fares for Railway Station/Airport pick and drop.
